Physiotherapist, Women's Health Specialist, Clinical Pilates instructor and founder of Body Form Education.
Kira-Leigh Rule is an Australian physiotherapist, women's health specialist and Pilates educator, and the founder of Body Form Education.
From Injury to Insight
At 15, Kira-Leigh was an elite gymnast when a spinal fracture ended her competitive career. She was told she would never return to sport. What followed was not a gym programme but Clinical Pilates in a rehabilitation studio, guided by health professionals. For over a year she rebuilt not just strength but control, awareness and confidence, and returned stronger than before. That experience shaped how she understands movement and, ultimately, how she teaches it.
From Rehab to Reformer
While completing her Bachelor of Physiotherapy she discovered the growing world of fitness-based Pilates and large-group Reformer classes. She loved the accessibility but quickly saw the gap. Before graduating she completed Mat and Reformer Pilates certifications (Cert IV), a Diploma of Clinical Pilates and Exercise Rehabilitation and qualified in Barre. She then specialised in Women's Health physiotherapy and taught across more than 22 Pilates studios, from large fitness Reformer environments to highly clinical equipment-based settings.
At just 22 she opened her first studio, Body Form Physiotherapy and Clinical Pilates, in Avalon on Sydney's Northern Beaches, then a second in Cromer before moving to Mona Vale. Working clinically while running studios reinforced one truth: great cueing is not enough. Instructors need clinical thinking, not guesswork.
Why Body Form Education Exists
After mentoring hundreds of instructors, one issue kept repeating: instructors knew exercises but not movement. They felt overwhelmed working with injuries or pregnancy, did not know how to progress or regress in real time, and lost confidence the moment a non-ideal body entered the room. That is not a failure of instructors; it is a failure of how instructors are trained.
Kira-Leigh began running Anatomy and Injury workshops for studios across the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand and beyond. The response was immediate: studios did not want more choreography, they wanted clinical reasoning, clarity and confidence. That work grew into Body Form Education: partnerships with 66+ studios, a global suite of on-demand CPD courses and a complete physiotherapy-led teacher training pathway delivered in Mat, Reformer, Studio Equipment and Barre.
“The mission is simple: to equip instructors with the knowledge, confidence and clinical reasoning required to teach safely, progressively and with authority, so clients feel supported and instructors feel empowered.”
